Guest conductor John DeMain joins our new concertmaster, Jessica Hung, for this program featuring two major romantic works: one that formed the epicenter of the movement (Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique) and the other, a rare pearl of great emotional intensity (Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1). This is Ms. Hung’s first concerto excursion in her new post at the DPO. The opening work by Theofanidis is a spectral, atmospheric work based on a fragment of melody from a chant by medieval mystic Hildegard of Bingen.
