DAYTON, OH (October 6, 2014) – This past Saturday, October 4, 2014, Dayton Performing Arts Alliance made an exciting announcement from the stage prior to the start of the Rockin’ Orchestra Concert The Music of Chicago.  DPAA President and CEO Paul Helfrich introduced a brand new DPAA summer concert series entitled “Summer In The City,” to premiere in downtown Dayton this coming July 2015.  “Summer In The City” will comprise four concerts featuring the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra with a variety of guest artists and DPO Conductors Neal Gittleman and Patrick Reynolds.  Performances will be on Friday evenings in July 2015 at 8 p.m. in the Mead Theater of the Schuster Center in downtown Dayton.

The 2015 “Summer In The City” Concert Series line-up is as follows:
* Friday, July 10: Guitar Heroes with guest rock ensemble Jeans ’n Classics
* Friday, July 17: The Music of ABBA with tribute band Arrival from Sweden
* Friday, July 24: The King – The Music of Elvis
* Friday, July 31: REWIND - Celebrating the Music of the 80s with special guests Sam Harris and Sheena Easton

“Summer In The City” emerges from a strategic planning process the DPAA underwent from October 2013 through June 2014.  During this process, the DPAA identified six strategic objectives to pursue over the next three years, the first of which is to “Energize and Engage Supporters through Groundbreaking Performances”.  One of the key initiatives identified in the support of this first objective was to explore the potential of a summer performance series. The “Summer In The City” series is the DPAA’s first step in pursuing this initiative.  It marks the organization’s first foray into summer programs since the Dayton Philharmonic’s “Sunset Symphony” series ended in 2005.

“After a ten-year hiatus, we’re ready to be part of a great summer in downtown Dayton,” said DPAA President & CEO Paul Helfrich.   “We’ve planned an exciting lineup of four concerts featuring outstanding guest artists and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra.   We’re bringing back Arrival from Sweden with their sensational Music of ABBA show, we’ve got 80s icons Sam Harris and Sheena Easton joining us for a tribute to the music of that decade, and there’s even a chance for local “Guitar Heroes” to get in on the act.   We invite folks to join us for four amazing evenings in the beautiful, air-conditioned comfort of the Schuster Center.”

DPAA will be working very closely with Downtown Dayton Partnership to make these concerts fantastic Friday night events in downtown Dayton this July.  Plans are underway to include, food, live entertainment, and festivities outside the Schuster Center before each performance.  “We’re proud that downtown Dayton is home to such a robust arts community,” said Downtown Dayton Partnership President Sandy Gudorf. “The ‘Summer in the City’ concert series will be a great opportunity to showcase downtown’s rich cultural offerings.”
Realizing the challenge summer planning can sometimes pose, the DPAA is making it incredibly easy on music-lovers to purchase their tickets ahead of time.  In the event that one’s summer plans change after having purchased tickets for any of the July concerts, “Summer In the City” tickets may be exchanged for any other DPAA event in the following 2015-2016 DPAA season.  “Subscribers can purchase with confidence,” said Helfrich.  “If you can’t make one of the concerts, you’ll be able to exchange those tickets for any other event in the 2015-2016 season. You really can’t lose.”

Subscriptions for the DPAA’s 2015 “Summer In The City” concert series range from $102-$280.  Single Tickets are available for each concert and range from $29-$81.   Subscriptions and single tickets can be purchased by calling Ticket Center Stage (937) 228-3630 or online at
