DAYTON, OH (September 7, 2016)  Dayton Performing Arts Alliance joins Downtown Dayton Partnership and several premier Dayton performing arts organizations in a downtown street party as we say goodbye to summer and hello to another exciting performing arts season!  On Friday, September 16 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Dayton Ballet, Dayton Opera, and Dayton Philharmonic are thrilled to be a part of Downtown Takes the Stage, a DP&L Summer in the City signature event celebrating downtown's rich performing arts scene.

Downtown Dayton Partnership will be closing downtown Dayton's "Avenue of the Arts," the block of Main Street between First and Second streets, to host a party with food, beer, and two stages full of live entertainment, featuring great theater, dance, orchestra, opera, puppetry, and spoken word performances, plus roving entertainers and plenty of other fun.

“One of our most popular amenities is our performing arts organizations and the renowned venues in the heart of our city,” said Downtown Dayton Partnership President Sandra Gudorf. “Whether it’s classical performers like the Dayton Ballet, Opera or Philharmonic, or semi-professional and community organizations, or fringe and street artists, downtown has a wide variety of performance arts to enjoy.”

Dayton Performing Arts Alliance will feature THREE enticing performances:

- Moment’s Notice, a jazz band featuring musicians from the Dayton Philharmonic, takes the stage first at 5:00 pm to get the party started on the Avenue of the Arts!

- Dayton Opera takes the stage around 6:00 pm when mezzo-soprano Melisa Bonetti and baritone Tyler Alessi, with pianist Jeffrey Powell, will each perform an aria from Georges Bizet’s beloved Carmen and then join together for a beautiful duet from Phantom of the Opera.

- Dancers from Dayton Ballet II, Dayton Ballet’s pre-professional company, will perform enchanting work choreographed by Dayton Ballet II Director Megan Forney.

About the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance
The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance was formed in July 2012 as the result of a groundbreaking and innovative merger between the Dayton Ballet, the Dayton Opera, and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. Together, they are the largest performing arts organization in the community, offering a tremendous variety of performance and education programs and setting a new standard for artistic excellence.  Dayton Performing Arts Alliance performances are made possible in part by Montgomery County and Culture Works, the single largest source of community funds for the arts and culture in the Miami Valley. The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance also receives partial funding from the Ohio Arts Council, a state agency created to foster and encourage the development of the arts and to preserve Ohio's cultural heritage. Funding from the Ohio Arts Council is an investment of state tax dollars that promotes economic growth, educational excellence, and cultural enrichment for all Ohio residents.  The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance is proud to be one of five performing arts organizations in the country selected to receive a three-year "Music Alive" grant from New Music USA and the League of American Orchestras.
