Dayton Opera On The Road

The Pirates of Penzance

Dayton Opera’s 2018–2019 Artist-in-Residence Program reached out to the Miami Valley with entertaining and educational programs for more than 20 middle and secondary schools as well as community audiences. This ensemble of four talented young professional singers—Marisa Karchin, soprano; Courtney Elvira, mezzo-soprano; Jacob Wright, tenor; and Michael Colman, bass-baritone—was selected from national auditions. Pianist Carol Walker was the Music Director for the Artist-in-Residence Program.

In cooperation with the Muse Machine, Dayton Opera presented a crazy, fast-paced, 40-minute version of the Gilbert and Sullivan comedy The Pirates of Penzance! Adapted by favorite Dayton Opera artist Gary Briggle, directed by former Muse Machine Executive Director Luke Dennis, and presented by Dayton Opera, The Pirates of Penzance featured the incredible talents of the four young professional singers from Dayton Opera’s acclaimed Artist-in-Residence Program, who performed all the roles in this special version.

For information on future programming, contact Milena Treer, or 937-224-3521, ext. 1091. You must provide a recently tuned piano and bench or a full-sized electronic keyboard with a stand and chair for the program. Programs are appropriate for grades 6–12 as well as adult audiences.
